Animal poems-Poems about all kinds of animals.
Dog
Breeze cools wet, black
shiny nose.
Brown curly furred
silken ears flap about.
Tongue flies back,
flinging spit.
Fresh light grass
blurs beneath
soft padded paws.
Cool spring breeze
ruffles fluffy brown fur.
Bright eyes eagerly search
for thrown stick.
Stella
A little kitten,
she was.
Born, I imagine, in some forgotten alley.
Cared gently for by the loving SPCA
and then by my excited and ready-to-love best friend.
Prancing, flitting through life
like the shadows she loved to pounce on.
I would cradle her, wanting to snuggle that sweet soft, silky black satin fur.
And she would playfully scratch at my arms.
I was a little afraid of her because of this,
but I respected that she was cute.
And I planned to watch her grow to a strong black cat.
And then I got a call.
It said “blocked”, but I knew it was from
my best friend.
I could hear her sobs.
She said she wanted to tell me something.
I guessed it was her fish. She said the other day they had Ick.
But I always tell her that the #1 rule of fish is: they die.
So why was she crying?
I kid of wondered if she'd be mad if I didn't cry.
I could hardly cry over fish I'd only seen once.
And then she said “Stella.”
Oh no! I thought. That cute black kitten I helped her choose?
“She got run over by a car.”
I leaned against the counter, my chin in my palms.
“And she died. We buried her with her favorite toys”
My eyes started to water. She stopped to sob.
I didn't know what to say or
to think.
I just felt so bad for my poor best friend.
That word, died.
So... abstract.
All it says is
She was here
and now she's gone.
Moths
Circle, twist, around the trunk
White fairy wings pumping hard
The fairies rise and fly up high
Raising a wing goodbye.
Horse
Flash of silky black
Friend of flying mane.
Thunder of heavy hoofs
before long soft tail
flows like spider silk in breeze.
All that's left
of stormy beauty
is hoof shaped holes in the fallen snow,
and cloudy breath that doesn't have a home.
Cat
Belly flat
Pressing on the floor
Eyes attentive
Watching
dancing feather bell
Swish swish
Back and forth
Jingle jingle
Up and down
Yellow eyes follow
Blink of an eye
Cat
Springs up
Pounce pounce
Jump! Splat
